What are we learning?

Word Work

Our new 1^st grade word wall words are: other, walk, school, night. We are reviewing these kindergarten words: too, know, of. This is week 27 on Spelling City. We are also studying complex consonants (mb and wr).

Writing

We are learning about strategies poets use while writing poems. This week we will be working in the computer lab to publish our best poems. We can’t wait to share these pieces with you at our Poetry Potluck!

Reading

We are continuing The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. While reading this classic, we will work on creating mental images. Did you know that creating mental images is a thinking strategy that good readers use to help them deepen their understanding of the text?

Science

This week we are continuing our study of weather and patterns in weather.

Math

We will continue our number sense unit this week by comparing numbers using the <, >, and = symbols.
